Independent Second Opinion Before You Book
Before you pay for your Nepal trek, know what you're actually getting.
You already have a trekking quote. We independently review the price, inclusions, exclusions, itinerary, operator information, and important terms so you can understand what you're paying for and what to clarify before sending a deposit.
A trekking quote can look complete without actually being complete.
If you ask two or three trekking companies in Nepal for a quote, you will often get back very different prices for the exact same route.
Two companies can quote the same trek at very different prices because they include different meals, accommodation, domestic flights or ground transport, permits, weather-delay arrangements, and guide support. A lower price isn't automatically a bad deal, and a higher price isn't automatically better quality.
“The real question isn't simply which quote is cheapest. It's what you're actually getting for the price.”
We look for the things that are easy to miss before you pay
Most surprises on a Nepal trek aren't hidden in secret clauses—they are everyday costs and logistics that the quote simply doesn't mention upfront:
Meals that aren't included
Some quotes include three meals a day on the trail, while others include only breakfast or teahouse lodging—leaving you to pay for high-altitude lodge meals out of pocket.
Domestic flight delays
Mountain flights (such as flights to Lukla) are often delayed by weather. Many quotes do not explain who pays for extra hotel nights, rebooked tickets, or helicopter alternatives when flights don't run.
Accommodation differences
Two quotes for the same route may assume very different Kathmandu hotels, teahouse room standards, private bathroom availability, or sleeping bag and down jacket rentals.
Transport or permit exclusions
Airport pickups, private jeeps versus local buses, national park entry fees, or local municipality permits are sometimes left out of the headline package price.
Unclear cancellation or refund terms
Many operators ask for a non-refundable deposit without clearly stating what happens if you need to change dates, modify the route, or cancel before arrival.
Other costs that appear on the trail
Hot showers, phone and camera charging, Wi-Fi, safe drinking water, and expected guide and porter tips can add up quickly if you aren't told to budget for them in advance.
What we check before you pay
When you send us your quote, we go through the details that determine what your trek will actually cost and how well you will be supported on the trail.
What you're paying
We compare your quoted price against realistic local and international rates for the same route, trip length, and group size so you know whether the price is fair.
What's included
We check the exact items covered in your package—such as flights, permits, meals, guide support, and porter weight limits—so you know what you are actually getting.
What's excluded
We point out important services or fees left out of the quote that you will still need to arrange or pay for yourself.
Potential extra costs
We estimate the extra expenses you should expect on the trail, including daily meals, hot showers, battery charging, Wi-Fi, tips, and weather-delay buffers.
Operator information
We check whether the company provides verifiable Nepal registration details, consistent business identity, and clear information about who runs the trek on the ground.
Itinerary and acclimatization
We review the day-by-day route and sleeping altitudes to see whether the schedule gives you enough time to acclimatize safely or rushes high-altitude gains.
Accommodation expectations
We check what the quote states about Kathmandu hotels and trail teahouses, including single-room options, bathroom arrangements, and extra nights if your schedule changes.
Important terms and conditions
We read the fine print on deposits, payment methods, cancellation rules, refund policies, date changes, and emergency evacuation support.
Questions worth asking the trekking company
We write a clear, practical list of questions you can send directly to the operator so you can get important promises in writing before you pay.

Review My Quote — $49We don't get paid by trekking companies.
Many travel websites recommend trekking companies because they earn a commission when you book, or because they sell treks themselves. We don't do either.
- No operator referral fees.
- No affiliate commissions.
- No paid rankings.
- No sponsored reviews.
- The customer pays us directly for the review.
Our incentive is simple: You pay us to give you an independent second opinion. We have no reason to push you toward one trekking company over another.
Checking what is hard to verify from abroad
When you are planning a trek from overseas, almost any website can look polished and trustworthy. It is difficult to tell from abroad whether a company actually runs its own treks in Nepal or simply passes bookings to someone else.
Because our team is based in Kathmandu, we can check Nepal-specific details that are hard for an international traveler to verify remotely—including local business registration records, tourism association memberships, realistic route logistics, and current teahouse and transport costs.
Why check your quote before paying a deposit?
Before you send a deposit, you are in control. Trekking companies are quick to reply, willing to answer specific questions, and open to putting verbal promises in writing.
Once you wire a deposit, your leverage is gone. If you find out later that domestic flights, trail meals, porters, or weather-delay nights were left out—or that the itinerary cuts an acclimatization day—it is much harder to change the terms or get your money back.
Getting a second opinion before you pay lets you fix unclear terms, budget for real trail costs, or choose a better option while the decision is still in your hands.
Common Questions
Are you a trekking company or tour operator?
No. NepalTrekInsights is not a trekking company. We do not sell, organize, or guide treks, and we never try to move your booking to another agency.
Do you get paid by trekking companies if I book with them?
No. We do not accept referral fees, affiliate commissions, paid rankings, or advertising sponsorships from trekking companies. You pay us directly for the quote review.
What if the quote I received is already good?
We will tell you that clearly. Our job isn't to find fault where none exists—it's to confirm whether the price and itinerary are reasonable and point out any small details worth confirming in writing.
Can I send quotes from more than one company?
Yes. If you are deciding between two or three quotes for your trek, you can share them with us and we will help you understand the real differences between what each company is offering.
How fast will I get my review back?
Reviews are completed within 12 hours so you don't lose time when you are getting ready to book.
